Be Still

Be still.

Those words keep coming back to me again and again.

Be still.

Why is something that sounds so easy, so hard to do?

"Be still and know that I am God!" Psalm 46:10

"Be still" in this verse comes from the Hebrew term, "raphah" which means: to sink, to relax, to drop the work, to loosen, to weaken, to be quiet, to let go.

I could read those words over and over again all day.

To relax.
To let go.
To sink.

I picture myself sinking—relaxing everything and loosening my cold, tight grip on control. On stress. On deadlines. On problems. Sinking in a pool of God's presence.

Suspended in His goodness. Like floating in water. Everything seems to go to slow motion. Distractions become soft and muffled. Movement is slow and graceful. Everything seems effortless.

To sink.

Being still is about fully letting go. Trusting God and living—experiencing the moment to the fullest. Suspended.

This very moment.

Where gratitude meets the realization that this moment will not pass your way again.

When God suspends time and you can experience the fullness of His presence without deadlines, pressures or stress squeezing you and clamoring for your attention.

Time to hear the voice of your Creator as He gently whispers life substance straight into your heart. Buoyant words. Words that help you stay afloat in life.

Time for your soul to breathe.
Time to slow the machine.
Time to hush the world.
Time to turn off...everything.
And tune in to the beat of His heart.

He is timeless.
He is boundless.
He has always been and always will be.
He has the answer before the question is ever asked.

Seek.
Find.
Listen.

Still your soul to hear His voice.

That moment where life is effortless and you remember it's all in His hands. Oh, if you'll just trust, rely and rest in Him.

Rest.
Not wrestle.

Know.
Not figure out.

Trust.
Not try.

Be still.

Sink...
